About this converter
What does this PNG to WEBP converter do?
PNG to WEBP conversion re-encodes a lossless PNG as a WEBP file, which often produces a much smaller image while still supporting transparency. That combination matters for product photos with cutouts, UI assets, logos, and overlays — cases where JPG would force a white (or solid) background and PNG can become unnecessarily large.
Priconvert does the work entirely in your browser: the PNG is decoded with native image APIs, drawn to a canvas, and exported as WEBP. Your file is not uploaded to a server for conversion. You can resize before export and use quality presets or a custom quality slider to balance visual detail against file size.
WEBP supports both lossy and lossless compression in the format specification. Browser canvas export typically produces a lossy WEBP when a quality value is supplied, which is usually the right tradeoff for web delivery. If you need a guaranteed lossless archive copy, keep the original PNG or export to PNG instead.
Supported formats and compatibility
Priconvert accepts standard .png files, including images with an alpha channel. The output is a .webp file. Modern Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari versions can display WEBP; older software, some email clients, and certain design or CMS workflows may still prefer PNG or JPG.
Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are preserved when exporting PNG to WEBP. Animated WEBP is not produced by this converter — only static images are supported. Very large PNGs may be limited by your device memory rather than by a server upload limit.
