PNG to JPG converter that runs in your browser

PNG is the right choice when you need lossless pixels and/or an alpha channel — logos, UI chrome, screenshots with sharp text, and any graphic where compression artifacts would be obvious. It is a poor default for large photographs because file sizes grow quickly compared with JPG or WEBP.

Export to PNG when editing pipelines expect lossless intermediates, when transparency must be preserved exactly, or when the destination forbids newer formats. For final web delivery of photos, prefer JPG, WEBP, or AVIF instead.

JPG remains the most universally compatible format for photographs and continuous-tone images. Use it when a form, CMS, printer, or older device still expects JPEG, or when you need the smallest friction for sharing with non-technical recipients.

Do not use JPG for graphics that need transparency or for content with hard edges and flat colors — those compress poorly and show ringing. For modern websites, WEBP or AVIF often give better size/quality tradeoffs when compatibility allows.

PNG is lossless and can store transparency; JPG is lossy and cannot. Convert PNG → JPG when you need a smaller, widely compatible photo-like file and can accept a solid (usually white) background instead of alpha. Convert JPG → PNG when you need a lossless intermediate or must avoid further generation loss before further edits — knowing the file will usually get larger.

Neither format is universally “better”: match the format to transparency needs, editability, and delivery constraints.
